🌱🟢 How to Grow Peas (Terrain)

Peas are like green garden sweets that grow in magical pods! The Terrain variety is great for UK gardens, and you can grow them in a garden bed, a big pot, or even a raised box. Let’s grow a pea-picking paradise! 🐛🌻

🧺 What You’ll Need:

  • Terrain pea seeds

  • Compost or soil

  • A trowel (or a spoon!)

  • A pot

  • Bamboo sticks or string for climbing

  • Watering can or spray bottle

  • Sunshine and smiles 😄

📅 When to Sow

  • Outdoors: From March to June

  • Peas like the cooler spring weather — not too hot or frosty!

🌱 Planting Your Peas Outside

👣 Step-by-step:

  1. Choose a sunny spot in your garden or fill a big deep pot with soil.

  2. Make a little trench (a shallow line in the soil) about 2cm deep.

  3. Drop a seed every 5–7cm along the line like you’re planting little green treasures!

  4. Cover the seeds with soil and pat it down gently.

  5. Water carefully — don’t make a puddle! 💧

🌟 TIP: Plant more seeds every 2 weeks for pea snacks all summer!

🧗 Help Them Climb!

Peas grow tall and twisty, so give them something to climb:

  • Use bamboo sticks or build a fun pea teepee with string.

  • As the peas grow, they’ll grab onto the sticks with curly “arms” called tendrils!

🌿 Looking After Your Peas

💧 Water

  • Keep the soil moist but not soggy.

  • Water more often when the weather is sunny!

🌞 Sunlight

  • Peas love the sun, but cooler days are okay too.

🐞 Watch for Bugs

  • Peas are tough, but if you see tiny bugs, gently wash the leaves with water.

🟢 When to Pick Peas!

  • June to August, look for fat, green pods.

  • Gently open one — are the peas round and plump?

  • If yes… you’ve got peas, please!

Use two hands to pick the pods so you don’t hurt the plant.

🥣 Eating Your Garden Goodies

  • Eat them straight from the pod — they’re super sweet!

  • Add to salads, stir-fries, or pop them in your lunchbox!

  • Try them with a little butter for a yummy snack!

🤩 Fun Ideas

  • 🏕️ Pea Teepee Tent: Grow peas in a circle around tall sticks and sit inside your plant fort!

  • 🟢 Pea Tracker: Measure how tall your pea grows every week — does it grow faster than you?

  • 🧙 Magic Pod Watch: Count how many pods grow on your plant — make a guess and check each day!

💡 Top Tips

  • Slugs like young peas — protect them with crushed eggshells or wool pellets around the base.

  • You can grow more peas every few weeks for endless crunchy fun!

  • Save some dried pods at the end of summer to plant next year!
